"Am decis să explorez spațiile abandonate din sat. Locuri în care oamenii nu mai trăiesc, care nu mai pot fi folosite. Este încă un proces, o călătorie. Un proiect de natură artistică ajunge să se nască singur. Aș spune că este un proces aproape mistic, sau cel puțin așa simt eu."
Casele vechi, abandonate sunt adesea spații considerate “moarte” din momentul în care și-au pierdut utilitatea practică și scopul: locuirea. Ele capătă o nouă viață în proiectul video al Marei Oglacki intitulat “Postcards from what used to be home.” Proiectul propune un mod de a privi spațiile care au fost abandonate, cu scopul de a crea o narațiune în jurul lor, așa încât acestea să nu dispară complet.
Proiectul video reprezintă imaginile caselor juxtapuse cu citate de pe diverse site-uri web, fiecare dintre ele dând o definiție diferită lui “acasă”. Stratul acesta adaugă o privire și asupra culturii internetului - fetișizarea pozitivității și comercializarea citatelor drept decorațiuni.
Fiecare dintre casele acum lăsate să moară au reprezentat cândva un “acasă” pentru cineva. Este oare aspirația către acasă supusă dispariției?
Mara Oglakci s-a născut în 2001, în București, România. În prezent studiază sunet și montaj la UNATC, în București, având o practică multidisciplinară. În primăvara anului 2022 a avut prima ei expoziție solo - A goodbye to adolescence. Instalația participativă a avut loc în spațiul Vag.ON, la Malmaison. Alege să construiască narațiuni despre intimitate prin instalații video, colaje și fotografii. Lucrările ei sunt o explorare atât a spațiilor interne, cât și a celor externe - structuri din natură, relația dintre fotografie și fantezie, studiul corpului și mișcării, meditația, izolarea.

“I decided to explore the abandoned houses of the village. Places in which people don’t live anymore, that can’t be used anymore.It's still a process, a trip. An artistic based project gives birth to itself in a way. I would say it's almost a mystical process, at least that's what I feel.”
Old abandoned houses are seen as being “dead” in the moment they have lost their practical purpose: habitation. They gain a new life in the video project “Postcards from what used to be home” made by Mara Oglacki. The video is about looking at abandoned houses with a different look, trying to create a narrative around them, so they are not completely erased.
“Postcards from what used to be home” is a reflection upon the concept of ‘home’. The old, abandoned buildings are juxtaposed with quotes, taken from various websites, each of them giving a different definition of home. It is seen through the eyes of classic internet culture - the pinterest - like fetishization of positivity and commodification of quotes as decoration.
Every house that is now left to die was a homelike place once for someone. Is the search for home disappearing too?
Mara Oglakci was born in 2001, in Bucharest, Romania. She is a young multidisciplinary artist, currently studying sound and montage at UNATC, in Bucharest. She took part in an artistic mentorship programme in 2021, working with the artist Larisa Crunțeanu on a video installation which was presented at the Malmaison Studios and ARCUB. In the spring of 2022 she had her first solo show - A goodbye to adolescence. It was a participative installation exhibited at the Vag.ON space, at Malmaison. She chooses to build narratives through installations, videos, collages and photographs. A strong concern of hers is intimacy. Her works aim to create an environment that establishes a personal relationship with the viewer, while also raising questions. They are an exploration of both internal and external spaces- structures in nature, the relation between photography and fantasy, the study of body and movement, meditation, isolation.
